Rapid Rural Community Response aims to build resilience among underserved communities coping with the COVID-19 pandemic, articulate better and amplify the voices of the poor in front of policy-makers, inform the general public about the condition of vulnerable families in rural India through structured research, and finally to reclaim the space of constructive professional development organizations.

COVID-19 Response

Rapid Rural Community Response is a collaborative that has supplemented government efforts in preventing the spread of COVID-19, alleviating its impact on the poor and migrants, by organizing oxygen equipment, raising vaccination awareness among communities, and mobilizing them for schemes such as MGNREGA.

The collaborative is also working on highlighting their vulnerable condition through three rounds of household surveys, and entering into a memorandum of understanding with the Central Government to improve livelihoods in 50 districts.

It's a pure delight to see friends and colleagues, all karmayogis working at the grassroots, many of whom I have known for as long as I can remember – some since 1985 when I joined the development sector – come together on a common platform to strengthen the voices of the poor to influence government policies and deepen democracy.
