A group of entrepreneurs from Delhi NCR came together at the peak of the second wave of COVID-19 in India to form the Democracy People Foundation and launch a non-profit and charitable initiative called Mission Oxygen in April 2021.

COVID-19 Response

As part of Mission Oxygen, in a little over four to five weeks, Democracy People Foundation raised $9 million from 43,000 donors from over 100 countries. It was able to source 5,244 medical-grade oxygen concentrators from World Health Organization-approved facilities in China and donated them to over 370 medical institutions and NGOs in 28 states in India.

It has helped set up 37 oxygen generation plants and also contributed 55,000 oximeters to the National Health Missions programme in the state of Tamil Nadu to help carry out syndromic surveillance of 6 million people.

No one could have prepared for what has come upon us. What COVID-19 has shown us is how much can be done when humans come together selflessly with a single-minded approach to a single cause. Mission Oxygen is just one example of that.
