Healing Fields Foundation has worked with 6.25 million people in 5,000 villages in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and Jharkhand. It is working to improve the social determinants of health by integrating three critical themes: health education programmes based on behaviour change, gender empowerment, and entrepreneurship for women.

Women community health entrepreneurs in these villages are trained in basic healthcare management and equipped with a basket of affordable health products.

COVID-19 Response

Healing Fields Foundation has trained 1,200 community health entrepreneurs (CHEs) to lead the response to COVID-19 in their villages. The CHEs have led community education on prevention, vaccination and home care, and set up COVID Care Centers. It has formed COVID Committees to build resilience and responsibility at the village level. Rations, medicines and oximeters have been distributed and telecare lines were opened for community members to access medical advice.

After the initial shock, the pandemic has opened up opportunities not only for us as an organization but for our women community health entrepreneurs to rise up and take charge of their communities. With the women, we were able to create resilient communities, reach local leaders and access much-needed healthcare and food for the vulnerable.
