Conserve India empowers marginalized communities, especially women's groups of waste pickers and artisans, through capacity building. The organization educates and empowers communities on using waste as a resource to create high-value products. In doing so, it believes in bringing even higher value to both communities and the planet.
Conserve India provided food supplies to over 5,000 families, helped 15 community kitchens get their supplies, and created a multistakeholder platform to facilitate on-the-ground action during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. It has also conducted training programmes on mask making and using COVID-19 care equipment, and spread awareness on mask usage and disposal.
It has been working on reducing vaccine hesitancy. Its partner artisan communities have produced and distributed over 50,000 masks. It is currently developing training programmes for microenterprise groups to upcycle personal protection equipment (PPE) kits to create livelihoods from COVID-19 waste.
While COVID-19 has impacted everyone, some sections of society have been affected disproportionately. The pandemic has directly impacted the livelihoods of marginalized communities – increasing the risk of other diseases, domestic abuse, and dropout rates from schools. We strive to recover from this crises, with a hopeful vision, through co-creation, empathy and unity.
