Aajeevika Bureau (AB) is committed to combatting the challenges faced by India's informal and migrant workforce. The non-profit provides a rich range of services and solutions to vulnerable workers – skilling, placement, legal aid, financial services, social security and support to migrants in their urban destinations.

The non-profit has so far supported more than 500,000 informal migrant workers and continues to expand its coverage directly and through partnerships.

COVID-19 Response

During the lockdown from March to June 2020, Aajeevika Bureau (AB) teams moved into immediate action in rural and urban areas supporting migrant workers. They provided over 20,000 food kits to stranded resource-poor migrants and their families.

The non-profit organized transportation for workers to get back to work, and played an active facilitation role in finding them employment upon return. They implemented a large-scale programme to help migrants access government relief and social security measures in several districts and urban locations. The organization's COVID-19 relief efforts have positively impacted over 50,000 people.

The COVID-19 pandemic has not only amplified existing hardships among migrant workers; it has also created new ones. The migrants issue has become well known in the public consciousness; but the more fundamental problems facing their work, working conditions and social protection have to be addressed more urgently. This cannot be done alone – labour organizations, industries and the state have to work together to improve labour standards that will bring lasting improvement to the economy.
