Richard Kurin is responsible for the oversight of all of the Smithsonian’s national museums with projects in 145 nations. He led the effort to save heritage damaged and endangered by the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Other projects have ranged from working with Syrian nationals to protect heritage under onslaught to enabling Egyptian conservators to rescue bomb-damaged Islamic treasures.
